FAQ - Understand our Treatments Better
Whether you’re getting braces or Invilasign, you’re likely to have a few questions, so check out the following FAQs.
Braces
Will I feel any pain during the fitting of braces
No. We make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Although you may feel some discomfort, you will not feel any pain. The attachment of braces only involves using a special cement to attach the brackets to the teeth.
Are there any restrictions when it comes to food?
Yes. We advise against eating sticky food, hard candies or chewing on ice cubes. Finger biting is not advisable either as it can cause your brackets to get unattached from your teeth.
What happens if a bracket falls off?
We will simply reattach it. This is not a problem but if this happens, you should call us as soon as you can to get your bracket reattached as soon as possible.
How can I clean my teeth with braces on?
You can clean your teeth by brushing and flossing as normal. However, you do need to pay close attention as it is a lot more difficult to clean your teeth with braces. You will want to use a toothbrush with softer bristles and a smaller head to clean your teeth properly without affecting the integrity of braces.
Will it hurt to eat with braces on?
After the first few days of treatment, your teeth will feel a little tender. During this time you may want to stick with soft foods. After 2 to 3 days, you will find all discomfort gone and continue to eat normally again. You may also feel soreness or tenderness when the wires are tightened.
Will teeth need to be removed?
If you are experiencing Overcrowding, then we may need to extract a tooth or teeth to make space for the other teeth on the jaw. This is necessary for the treatment to be a success. In most other cases extraction of the teeth is not needed.
How much will braces cost?
This is determined on a case-by-case basis. The severity of the issue and the orthodontic work needed to remedy it is the main factor on cost. The type of braces you choose whether traditional braces, lingual braces or Invisalign will all impact on cost. We will provide you with a detailed quotation for your approval before we commence treatment.
Will braces affect my speech?
In many cases, yes. However, once your tongue and lips get used to the braces, you will be able to adjust and speak normally again. Braces don’t affect the tone of your voice. A slight lisp may be experienced but disappear after time.
How long will the treatment go on?
The length of treatment can vary from 6 to 30 months. The length of treatment is determined by the joint factors of severity and age. The more severe your case and the older you are the longer your treatment.

What are the main advantages of Lingual Braces from conventional braces?
